  • The brown skin covering the onion is made from leaves which are adapted to protect the inside from harsh conditions. If you peel away these dry brown leaves you will see the white fleshy leaves which contain stored food.
  • A phyllode is a modified leaf, while a phylloclade is a modified stem. Phyllodes bear an axillary bud while phylloclades do not. Phyllodes do not have flowers or buds is while in phylloclades do not. Phyllodes have axillary buds that look a bit like spines, while phyllodes do not.
  • The pinnately compound in which there is only one terminal leaflet rather then a terminal pair of leaflets is known as an imparipinnate leaf. They are also called the odd-pinnate leaf.
  • Compound leaves are of two types, pinnately compound leaves and palmately compound leaves. In pinnately compound leaves, leaflets are arranged in opposite direction on the rachis. It is further divided into two types based on its pairing. In paripinnate, the leaflets are oddly paired in opposite direction. In this, a single leaflet is present at the anterior end of the rachis. A leaf is an imparipinnate rose.
