Each seminiferous tubule is lined on its inside by two types of cells called male germ cells and Sertoli cells. Sertoli cells are supporting cells. The male germ cells undergo meiotic divisions which leads to sperm formation. The regions outside the seminiferous tubules called intersititial spaces, contain blood vessels and interstitial cells or Leyding cells. Leyding cells synthesise and secrete testicular hormones called androgens (testosterone). Seminiferous tubules open into vasa efferentia through rete testis.
