Solution

The correct option is D i - F, ii - T, iii - T, iv - F
Selective mating of animals to produce offspring with desired qualities is called animal breeding.

Animals are subjected to breeding process so that they can be beneficial for the humans in several ways like
  • higher yield of milk
  • good quality of meat and other animal products
Animal breeding is of two types: inbreeding and out-breeding.

Inbreeding involves the mating of more closely related individuals (having common ancestors) within the same breed for 4- 6 generations.

But due to continued inbreeding, there is a reduction in the fertility and productivity. This is called inbreeding depression

Mating of unrelated animals is called out-breeding. There are three types of out-breeding.
  • Out-crossing: Mating of unrelated animals within the same breed that do not have common ancestors.
  • Cross-breeding: Mating of animals belonging to two different breeds.
  • Interspecific hybridisation: It is the practice of mating male and female animals of two different but closely related species. Mule is an example of interspecific hybridisation. It is obtained by crossing a male donkey and a female horse.
