Any undesirable change in physical, chemical or biological characteristics of air is called air pollution. Solids, liquid particles and certain gases that are suspended in the air which causes air pollution are called air pollutants.

Coal power plants where fossil fuels (coal, petroleum, natural gas) are utilised to generate electricity is one of the major sources for air pollution. So finding and promoting alternatives of fossil fuels for energy sources is important to reduce the air pollution.

Wind and solar energy are the major alternative sources of energy. They will not pollute the air like power plants that rely on combustion of fossil fuels, such as coal or natural gas, which emit particulate matter, greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides) and sulfur dioxide. This can cause human health problems (breathing difficulties and irritations) and economic damages (destruction of structures and monuments). Hence option a is incorrect and option b is correct.

Solar energy is a renewable energy source. It can be harnessed in all areas of the world and is available every day. Solar energy will be accessible as long as there is sun.

More vehicles on the road, the more pollution. Using public transport can reduce the number of vehicles on the road and thereby reduce air pollution. Developing vehicles that do not use fossil fuel can be a measure to reduce air pollution. Improvising electric vehicles such that many people shift from normal vehicles to electric vehicles can hence reduce pollution. So option c is correct.

Automobiles are a major cause for air pollution in the metro cities. Incomplete combustion of fuels such as petrol or diesel results in the formation of pollutants such as unburnt carbon particles, carbon monoxide, aromatic hydrocarbons (naphthalene, anthracene), nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, etc. Hence option d is correct.
