Question

Read the following statements ) The density of the water equals 1000Kgm-3 . ii) An iron cube of side 10cm placed on a table. iii) The density of iron is 8000 Kg+m3 . Now answer the questions with a reason (a) Find the mass of iron cube (b) Will the iron cube sink or float, when put in water (c) Find the pressure exerted by iron cube (d) Express the relative density of iron.

Solution

Dear Student , density of water = 1000 kg /m3 Volume of iron cube = (side)3 = (0.10)3 = 0.001 m3 1) Hence mass = volume×density = 1 ×10-3 ×8000 = 8 kg 2) Definitely cube will sink within water 3) Pressure exerted = weight / area = 8 ×9.8 (0.01) = 7840 Pa (pascals) 4) R.D = density of substance/density of water = 8000/1000 = 8 Regards
