Question

Read the given passage and answer the following question.

In fruit flies, normal-sized, solid-colored body and red eyes are wild-type (normal) traits. Flies can be assumed to have these traits unless otherwise stated. Fruit flies from a strain with purple eyes are crossed with fruit flies from a strain with dwarf bodies to produce F1 generation which then undergoes selfing to produce F2 generation.
The allele resulting in purple eyes is located near an allele resulting in streaks across the body, on the same chromosome. The streaked body phenotype is recessive. Crosses are performed with flies from purebred lines, which are wild type for all other traits.

Solution

The correct option is D 3 in 16
According to the table, a number of F2 flies with the dwarf, red-eyed phenotype is 95 out of total 548. This makes their ratio 95/548 x 16= 2.77 or 3 out of 16. Thus, the correct answer is option D.
