Question

Read the given process of distillation. Identify the incorrect parts in the process.

Distillation is the process of separating a solid from its solution by condensing it and then evaporating its vapor. The process is carried out in a specially designed apparatus called miscible flask. The solution is heated in a distillation flask due to which the solid component gets evaporated. The vapor of the solid pass through a tube called distillation column. The distillation column is kept warm so that the vapor can cool down. Finally, the vapor are collected in a receiving beaker. In this way, we get pure solid from its solution.

Solution

Incorrect parts in the distillation process:

Distillation is the process of separating a solid from its solution by condensing it and then evaporating its vapor. The process is carried out in a specially designed apparatus called miscible flask. The solution is heated in a distillation flask due to which the solid component gets evaporated. The vapor of the solid pass through a tube called distillation column. The distillation column is kept warm so that the vapor can cool down. Finally, the vapor are collected in a receiving beaker. In this way, we get pure solid from its solution.

Corrected parts in the distillation process:

Distillation is the process of separating a liquid from its solution by evaporating it and then condensing its vapor. The process is carried out in a specially designed apparatus called the distillation flask. A solution is heated in the distillation flask due to which the liquid component gets evaporated. The vapor of the liquid pass through a tube called condenser. The condenser is kept cool so that vapor can cool down. Finally, the vapor are collected in a receiving flask. This way, we get pure liquid from its solution.
