Five friends P, Q, R, S and T went to watch a cricket match in a stadium having ascending rows from bottom to top, numbered 1 to 4 in that order. They sat in four successive rows, such that at least one of them sits in each row. P sat in one of the middle rows. Either R or S sat in the top row. Q sat above P but below T.

Five friends sat in the four successive ascending rows, such that at least one of them sits in each row. Thus there are two friends in one row and one friend each in the rest of the three rows. Now, the stadium has ascending rows from bottom to top, numbered 1 to 4 in that order. So, let us call the bottom row as 1st row and the top row as the 4th row.

Now, P sat in one of the middle rows. Thus P is sitting in either 2nd or 3rd row.

Also, Q is above P but below T. For this condition to be true, P has to sit in the 2nd row, Q in the 3rd row and T in the 4th row. It may be represented as below:

We also know that either R or S sat in the top row. So, one of them sat in the top row and other one in one of the other rows. However, as at least one of them sits in each row, the bottom row cannot be vacant. Hence, one among R and S sits in the top row and another in the bottom row. Also, it‘s clear that two friends must be sitting together in the top row. Hence, we get the final picture that emerges may be represented as shown below:

Now, if P and R did not sit in successive rows, then we know that S sat in the bottom row and R sat in the top row. Thus only S sat below P and rest of the friends sat above P.
