DNA is a polymer of nucleotides. The structure of DNA was given by Watson and Crick who stated that there are 2 polynucleotide chains that form a double helix.

One end of the DNA strand is called 5' end and the other end is called the 3' end. The 5' and 3' refer to the number of the carbon atom in a deoxyribose sugar molecule.

The two strands of DNA are antiparallel, it means, if one strand has the polarity 5'→3', the other has 3'→5’.

The two strands of DNA are not identical, rather they are complementary. Adenine on one strand pairs with thymine on the other strand by two hydrogen bonds. Guanine on one strand pairs with cytosine on the other strand by three hydrogen bonds. This is called complementary base pairing.
