  • The mitochondria is a double-membraned cell organelle which is known as the powerhouse of the cell which is present in all eukaryotic cells (plants and animals).
  • The inner membrane of the mitochondria is the site of the electron transport chain (aerobic respiration).

  • Eg- cells of the muscles and heart require more energy than the normal cells of the body (skin cells etc).
