Dear Student,
Given,
Reading of side of a table measured by metre scale, vernier scale, screw gauge are 2.5 cm, 2.53 cm and 2.537 cm, respectively.
Least count of an instrument is the minimum reading that can be taken by a measuring device.
Looking into the data, it can be seen that the
1. metre scale can take data up to 1 place of decimal in cm, so its least count must be 0.1 cm
2. vernier scale can take data up to 2 place of decimal in cm, so its least count must be 0.01 cm.
3. screw gauge can take data up to 3 place of decimal in cm, so its least count must be 0.001 cm.
Ratio of their least counts are 0.1 : 0.01 : 0.001 = 1 : 0.1 : 0.01.
