Red Soil is also known as
Omnibus soil.
The presence of ferric oxide gives a red color to this soil.
This soil is mainly found in the eastern and southern parts of the Deccan plateau, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, and southern parts of the middle Ganga plain.
Wheat, pulses, tobacco, oilseeds, potatoes, etc. are the major crops cultivated in red soil.
Physical properties of red soil:
Red soil has a high percentage of iron oxide and is porous in nature.
pH value scales from 6.6 to 8.0.
It has a lesser concentration of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and organic matter.
It does not respond to fertilizers and is infertile.
