Dost Mohammad Khan was the ruler of Afghanistan. He tried to keep a balance between the two significant powers, Russia and Britain. The British felt that the cordial relations of Dost Mohammad and Russia was dangerous for them. So they made Shah Shujah the king of Kabul. Shah Shujah was killed and the British troops were slaughtered. The British left in 1843 and Dost Mohammad regained his power.
