(b) The principle behind this technique is that, in a mixture of two immiscible liquids, the two liquids form two distinct layers. The heavier liquid forms the bottom layer and the lighter liquid forms the top layer.

(c) A mixture of oil and water can be separated by this method.

(d) Such liquids are called immiscible liquids (liquids which do not mix with each other).
