Regarding assertion and reason, select the correct option
Assertion: Agrobacterium tumefaciens is popular in genetic engineering because this bacterium is associated with the roots of all cereal and pulse crops.
Reason: A gene incorporated in the bacterial chromosomal gene gets automatically transferred to the crop with which the bacterium is associated.
Agrobacterium tumefaciens infects certain plants, in which Ti plasmid (not chromosomal genome) causes the formation of tumour like growth called a crown gall. To insert a gene into the plant, the tumor inducing gene is removed from the Ti plasmid and the gene of interest is inserted into the plasmid. The bacteria is then allowed to infect the plant. The plamsid is trasnfered into the plant genome as it happens in the natural Ti plasmid and the gene of interest gets incorporated into the genome of the plant.
