Adaptive or acquired immunity in humans is acquired through contact with specific pathogens during our lifetime. In case of pathogen specific disease like chickenpox, the memory cells in the immune system records necessary information about the chickenpox virus in the initial or first attack. In the second invasion of the same pathogen the immune system will now be able to provide a ‘specific’ ‘a more rapid’ and intensified response. Such a response is called the secondary response.
