Solution

Since a wheel is in shape of a circle, central angle of wheel =360o
Angle between spokes =Central angleNumber of spokes
If number of spokes =8
Angle between spokes =360o8
=45o
If number of spokes =10
Angle between spokes =360o10
=36o
If number of spokes =12
Angle between spokes =360o12
=30o
So, our table become
Numberofspokes4681012Anglebetweenapairofconsecutivespokes90°60°45°36°30°

We need to find number of spokes if the angle is 40o
Let the number of spokes be x
Since number of spokes ang angle are in inverse proportion
So,

x1y1=x2y2
4×90=x×40

x=4×9040
x=9

Number of spokes are 9.
