Question

Relate electric power in terms of potential difference and resistance.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1- Formula used

Electrical power is the rate of consumption of electrical energy in an electrical appliance.

The equation for electrical power is

P=V×I...(1)

Where P is electrical power, V is applied voltage and I is the current.

From Ohm's law,

I=VR...(2)

Where R is resistance.

Step 2- Deriving the relation between P,V and R.

From equation 2, substitute the value of I into equation (1) to find the relation.

P=V×VRP=V2R

Thus, the power in terms of potential difference and resistance is P=V2R.
