The relationship between economic development and human development are
1. Economic development means growth in per capita income. Human development is a wider phenomenon. Besides economic development, it also seeks to capture improvements in health and education status.
2. Human development measures per capita income (economic development), life expectancy (health) and literacy rate (education).
3. A country may have a high level of economic development but not a very high level of human development. This happens if per capita income is high but the income is unevenly distributed.
4. On the other hand, it is possible for a country with a moderate level of economic development to have a high level of human development. This happens if income is equitably distributed and there is universal access to health and education facilities.
5. Economic development is sustainable only if human development improves.
