Question

relation between electrochemical equivalent and equivalent weight proof

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Equivalent weight of a solution is the molecular weight of the solute divided by the valency of the solute(n-factor). Equivalent weight predicts the mass of a substance that will react with one atom of hydrogen in an acid-base analysis.

Equivalent Weight = Molecular weightn-factor
Electrochemical equivalent or ECE of an element is the mass of that element liberated or deposited at an electrode when one coulomb of electricity is passed through an electrolytic cell.

W=zIt

where W is mass of element liberated or deposited, I is the current passed and t is time for which current passed and z is called as electrochemical equivalent or ECE.

Note: These two are different things, not related to each other.
