Question

Resistance of a conductivity cell filled with a solution of an electrolyte of concentration 0.1M is 100Ω. The conductivity of this solution is 1.29Sm1. Resistance of the same cell when filled with 0.02M of the same solution is 520Ω. The molar conductivity of 0.02M solution of the electrolyte will be.
(1) 124×104Sm21
(2) 1240×104Sm21
(3) 1.24×104Sm21
(4) 12.4×104Sm21

Solution

The correct option is D.

Given,

Concentration +0.1mis 100ohm$

conductivity=1.29sm1

Resistance os 0.2mis520ohm

So,

Cell constant can be determined by the 0.1mkcl

=k×R

0.0129×100

1.29

So, the conductivity of the 0.2mkcl is:

Cell constant is divided by the resistance,

1.29520=2.48×103

Therefore the molar conductivity is

Δm=103km

103×2.48×1030.02

=1245cm2/mol

=12.4×104m/mol
