Resistors R1, R2 and R3 having values 5Ω, 10Ω, and 30Ω respectively are connected in parallel across a battery of 12V. Calculate [3 MARKS]

(a) the current through each resistor

(b) the total current in the circuit and

(c) the total circuit resistance.

R1=5Ω,R2=10Ω,R3=30Ω,V=12 V
(a) I1=? I2=? I3=?

(b) I=I1+I2+I3=?

(c) Rp=?

(a) From relation, (Ohm's law), R=VI

I=VR

Putting values, we get, I1=VR1=125=2.4 A

I2=VR2=1210=1.2 A

I3=VR3=1230=0.4 A

(b) Total current, I=I1+I2+I3

I=2.4+1.2+0.4=4 A

(c) From relation
1Rp=1R1+1R2+1R3

Rp=3Ω
