Rest means when an object is not changing its position with the passage of time.
For example, a tree is at rest as it is in the same position
Motion:
A body is said to be in motion when its position is changing with the passage of time.
For example, a car traveling on a road is changing its position with time.
Relation between rest and motion:
Rest and motion are relative terms because a body can appear to be in motion to one person while appearing to be in rest to another.
For example, a man sitting in the moving car is at rest with respect to his fellow passenger but he is in motion with respect to a lady standing outside the car.
