Rina’s brother found a match box and he counted the number of matchsticks in it. He found out that there were 42 matchsticks. He now went to Rina and asked her the number of 8’s she can make using the available matchsticks.What could be Rina's answer?

To make an 8 with matchsticks we use 7 matchsticks.

Let the number of 8 we could make be x.

Number of matchsticks for 1 figure of 8 = 7

So, number of matchsticks required = 7x

We have 42 matchsticks.

This means, 7x =42

Hence, the number of 8’s we can make is 6.
