Rishi is surprised when he sees water boiling at 115°c in a container. Give reasons as to why water can boil at a higher temperature .

  1. When water is inside a container then pressure is increased, when pressure is increased boiling point also increases.
  2. This happens because the conversion of liquid into vapour phase depends on the breaking of the bond with increasing temperature, where pressure is applied the bond will find it difficult to break, and hence the boiling point increases.
  3. Therefore, water kept in the container boils at a higher temperature because the pressure on the water molecules is increased.
