If she subtracts 3 from the number and divides that by 8, she gets a number $(\frac{x - 3}{8}) .$

According to the question, this number is equal to 3.

$\Rightarrow \frac{x - 3}{8} = 3 \Rightarrow x - 3 = 3 \times 8 \Rightarrow x - 3 = 24 \Rightarrow x = 24 + 3 \Rightarrow x = 27$
