Question

H2S is less acidic than H2Te. Why?

Open in App
Solution

Acidity of H2S and H2Te

In the oxygen family from S to Te size of the atom increases, and ionization enthalpy and bond dissociation enthalpy decreases.

Hence, in case of H2Te removal of a hydrogen ion from this compound becomes easier due to less bond dissociation enthalpy, so acidity is higher.
So, H2S is less acidic than H2Te.
