Question

Rock wants to paint a square wall of area $225$ square feet. What is the length of the wall?

Open in App
Solution

Area of the square wall $=225$ sq ft

We need to find the side length of the wall.

Let the sidelength be \(l\) ft.

Then, $ l^2=225.$
$\Rightarrow l=\sqrt{225}=\sqrt{15\times 15}=\sqrt{15^2}\\~~~~~~=(15^2)^\frac12$
$~~~~~~=15^{2\times \frac12}~~~(\because (a^m)^n=a^{mn})$
$~~~~~~=15$

Thus, the sidelength of the wall is 15 ft.
