The retina or inner layer of the retina is sensitive to light and has two types of sensory cells that are rod cells and cone cells. Rod cells are photoreceptor cells in the retina of the eye that can function in less intense light than the other type of visual photoreceptor and contains a pigment called rhodopsin. Whereas cone cells that are responsible for colour vision and function best in relatively bright light contain a pigment called photopsins or iodopsin.
