Rohan wants to coat his magic stick made of carbon with copper. He takes a battery, a container filled half with copper sulphate solution, a copper plate and his magic stick. But he is confused about which terminal of the battery to be connected to the copper plate and which terminal to his magic stick. What should he do?
He should connect the magic stick to the negative terminal and copper plate to the positive plate.
The copper from solution deposits to the electrode connected to negative terminal of the battery. So, he can connect the carbon stick to the negative terminal of the battery. The solution gets its copper from the electrode connected to the positive terminal of the battery. So, he should connect the copper plate to the positive terminal of the battery.
