role of sex chromosomes in pattern of inheritance

Open in App
Solution

Sex chromosomes affect the inheritance pattern in following three ways:
  1. Sex linked traits, the traits whose genes are carried on the sex chromosomes itself like colour blindness, haemophilia etc.
  2. Sex influeneced traits, traits where expression of a gene is influenced by the sex of the individual like male pattern baldness.
  3. Sex limited traits, traits for which autosomal genes are present in both sexes but remain turned off in one sex, like genes for aggression etc.
