Secondary structure of proteins:

  1. The local structure of the protein backbone which is stabilized by intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding of amide groups is referred to as the secondary structure of the protein.
  2. There are two types of secondary structures, the beta-strand, and the alpha helix.
  3. A right-handed spiral conformation is present in the alpha helix.
  4. A beta-strand is a polypeptide chain whose backbone has fully extended conformation.
