Let the cost of $1$ pencil be Rs. x and that of one eraser be Rs. y.

It is given that Romila purchased $2$ pencils and $3$ erasers for Rs. $9$ .
$∴ 2 x + 3 y = 9$

It is also given that Sonali purchased $4$ pencils and $6$ erasers for Rs. $18$ .
$∴ 4 x + 6 y = 18$

The algebraic representation of the given situation is
(1) $2 x + 3 y = 9$
(2) $4 x + 6 y = 18$
