The diocoel is the 3rd ventricle that is located in the diencephalon which is made up of the thalamus, epithalamus and hypothalamus. The thalamus is laterally present along the 3rd ventricle. The two halves of the thalamus form the lateral walls while the epithalamus forms the roof of the third ventricle. The hypothalamus is present anteroinferior, that is it forms the floor of the 3rd ventricle.
