Question

root hairs have become flaccid when fertilizers are added to the moist soil around it

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
When fertilizers are added to the moist soil around root hairs then the solution outside root hair becomes hypertonic. The movement of water occurs from the root hair to outside causing shrinkage of protoplasm which further causes plasma membrane to shrink from the cell wall which makes the root hair flaccid.
