Question

Rough surfaces reflect parallel rays of light falling on them in different directions. Does this violate the laws of reflection? Justify your answer.

Solution

No, rough surfaces do not violate the laws of reflection. The direction of normal at every point of incidence is different for a rough surface due to which the rays get reflected in different directions. Even so, at every point, the angle of incidence is always equal to the angle of reflection, thereby obeying the laws of reflection.
