It is true that ​rural to urban migration is one of the causes attributed to the formation and expansion of slums.Many people migrate to urban areas in search of better job poorunities, better education and a high standard of living. But many of the rural migrants fail to get jobs due to lack of proper skills and training,education and a competitive job market.

As a result, they face financial crisis and get engage in some casual jobs which provide them less income. So they cannot think of residing in better housing complexes with all facilities as housing in the urban areas is too expensive.They take shelter in slums which are deprived of basic facilities like water and electricity.This situation keeps increasing as the rural migrants come to urban areas which has further expanded the growth of slums.
