According to Rutherford's atomic model, the negatively charged electrons revolve around the positively charged nucleus in circular orbits.
But when a charged body is in motion, it radiates energy. Therefore, as the electrons orbit, they should continually lose energy, and their velocity should decrease, leading to spiral path.
Eventually electrons should fall into the nucleus, making the atom unstable.
But the atom as a whole is stable. Hence, Rutherford failed to explain the stability of an atom.
