Saccoglossus is a genus of acorn worms, belonging to class enteropneusta, phylum hemichordata. It is the largest genus in this class, with 18 species. Acorn worms are solitary worm-shaped organisms. All the hemichordates possess glomerulus as an excretory organ and it is present in the proboscis. All blood flowing anteriorly passes through a series of blood sinuses, called glomerulus. The glomerulus is present at the base of the proboscis. Excretory wastes are also filtered through glomeruli. These wastes are filtered into the coelom of the proboscis. These are released to the outside through one or two pores in the wall of the proboscis.

Both hemichordates and arthropods have an open circulatory system, indirect development and similar respiratory structures.
