Solution

While measuring the melting point of a solid, the beaker where he has placed the solid and allowed it to heat should ahve proper temperature measuring device,it should measure the temperature of the bulk and not the bottom of the vessel. This might have caused an anomaly in his reading.Apart from that, the given solid may not be pure which also causes an increase in the melting point of the solid. These two, may be causes for the reading change.
