Salt i.e. NaCl is formed by combination of Na and Cl2. It is a compound and a compound is formed by chemical reaction between two or more elements such that the properties of the formed compound is different from its constituent elements.
NaCl is a salt whereas Na is a metal and Cl is a non-metal.
NaCl is a crystalline solid, whereas Clā€‹2 is a gas.
Na reacts with water exothermically whereas, NaCl doesnot react with water.
