Question

Sangita performed an experiment to find the focal length of a convex lens. She placed a lighted candle on one end of a laboratory table, a screen on its other end and the lens in between the two as shown in the figure. She adjusted the positions of the three to obtain a sharp image of the candle flame on the screen.
Shoe now removes the candle flame and obtains the image of a distant lamp on an electric pole. She would be able to get a sharp image of the lamp on the screen by moving

Solution

The correct option is A the screen towards of the lens or the lens towards the screen
As we can observe the image on the screen is inverted hence the initial screen distance is beyond the focus. Now when the same lens and screen distance is used to find a sharp image of distant lamp then new image will be formed at focus hence the screen has to be moved towards the lens.
