Question

Saplings of paddy plants are transplanted when young but not of the wheat plants. Why?

Solution

Transplanting

  1. Transplanting is done on a very large scale in crop plants like rice for water saving, weed control and for maintaining desirable population density.
  2. All plants may not withstand 'transplanting shock' due to uprooting and replanting and the procedure may fail (say in wheat).
