Given : Total number of marbles $= 400$
Number of marbles given to Sam = $\frac{1}{5} \times 400 = 80$
Number of marbles given to David by Sam = $(\frac{3}{4}) \times 80 = 60$
Number of marbles left with Sam = $(80 - 60) = 20$
Hence, number of marbles left with Sam is $20$
