Sarita wanted to separate dye from blue ink. Her teacher told her that heating the ink over a water bath will give her the results. What is the name of the process that her teacher suggested?
Evaporation
The name of the process is evaporation, in which the liquid absorbs heat and gets converted to vapour. In this case, to separate dye from the ink, the ink is taken in a watch glass which is kept on the water bath. On absorption of heat the water from the ink evaporates (converted into vapours) and the solid dye is left behind.
Sedimentation, decantation, and filtration cannot be applied to separate dye from ink because these methods are used when the impurities are insoluble in a liquid.
