The sclerenchymatous tissues contain cells which have secondary deposition of lignin in the cell walls. These are the dead cells with no nucleus or cytoplasm. The sclerenchyma fibres in the plant help in providing support to the plant. Lignin is the material which cannot be easily degraded with the help of the enzymes. These are hard and stiff fibres which can sustain pressure and can be used for longer time. These fibres are commonly used for the production of ropes, gunny bags, mats, broom, etc.
