The thyroid hormones are formed by the attachment of the iodine to the tyrosine residue. One iodine attaches to tyrosine and forms Monoiodotyrosine (MIT) and two iodine attaches to form diiodotyrosine.

Tryptophan is an aromatic amino acid which acts as a precursor to the neurotransmitter. It helps in the biosynthesis of proteins. It also helps in the synthesis of niacin and auxin.
