Syphilis is a bacterial disease caused by Treponema pallidum which usually spreads by making sexual contact with the infected person. It starts with a painless sore –typically on the genitals, mouth or rectum. The disease spreads to people when they come in contact with infected skin sores.
Chancroid is caused by a bacterium called Haemophilus ducreyi which is a STD characterised by pain during urination or intercourse. It also has painful necrotizing genital ulcers.
