The ovule is an integumented megasporangium found in spermatophytes which develops into a seed after fertilisation. The body of the ovule consists of a mass of parenchymatous cells called nucellus (2n), which is equivalent to megasporangium. Megasporocytes or megaspore mother cells (MMC) are diploid (2n) cells that give rise to four linear haploid tetrad called megaspore (n) by the process of meiosis. A slender stalk that attaches the ovule to the placenta is a funicle that is diploid (2n) in nature.
