Solution

The correct option is C Condensation synthesis; hydrolysis
Carbohydrate monomers, perform important cellular functions. A disaccharide, is formed when two monomers are joined. A dehydration synthesis reaction, forms a bond between carbon atoms in two monosaccharides or monomers, thereby sandwiching an oxygen atom between them and releasing a water molecule. Carbohydrate chains are formed by additional dehydration synthesis reactions wherein one monomer is added at a time to a growing chain. The dehydration synthesis, is also known as condensation synthesis since two single molecules are condensed to form a larger one. The process of breaking a polymer into individual monomers or splitting the bond between monomers is called hydrolysis.
So, the correct answer is option C.
